Minnesota Marriage Records

The Minnesota Department of Health (DOH) is officially the government agency responsible for Vital Records in the state of Minnesota including Minnesota Marriage Records. The other vital records categories under its charge are Divorce, Birth and Death. Because of a change in Minnesota law, the DOH no longer record marriages. This office can now only issue copies of marriage licenses. Requests for certified copies of marriage certificates may be made by mail from the county registrar that issued the marriage license. Each certified copy of Marriage Certificate costs $8.

Minnesota Marriage License Public Records

A statewide index of Minnesota Marriage Records is available at the Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS). This is a joint effort of all 87 County Registrars of Minnesota. Files for marriages are indexed alphabetically according to the husband’s last name and chronologically by the date of marriage. Besides the walk-in service, requests can also be sent through phone, e-mail or mail to the Minnesota Department of Health. Marriage Records cost $9 per copy. The certified version is $15 each.
