Georgia Marriage Records
Georgia is an open-record state. This means that a wide array of different individuals wishing to obtain Georgia Marriage Records can do so. However, as is always the case, a certain set of guidelines must be followed. In Georgia, vital records including Marriage Records are maintained by the Department of Public Health’s Vital Records Office. From here, individuals may obtain Georgia Marriage Records provided they occurred from 1952 to the present day. However, it’s to make note that if a marriage occurred after 1996 the applicable information must also be forwarded to the Probate Court of the county in which the marriage license was originally issued.
There are currently two ways of obtaining Georgia Marriage Records; either in-person or through the US Postal Service. In both cases, similar guidelines are to be followed and fees to be paid. A single Georgia Marriage Record will require a $10.00 fee with each additional copy costing $5.00 a piece. These fees are to be paid via check or money order as the Vital Records Office will not accept mailed-in cash.
Provided requestors are willing to pay the above mentioned fee, they must also provide several pieces of information to obtain any given Georgia Marriage Record. This information includes the groom’s full name, the bridge’s full name, the exact date on which the marriage occurred, the city and/or county in which the marriage occurred and the number of copies that are to be sent. Upon obtaining this information, an application can then be filled out and mailed to the Vital Records Office where they will process the request and send it to a specified address. While this method may save time, it will take a few weeks for the Marriage Records to be returned.
