Colorado Marriage Records
Colorado is an open record state. Many different types of vital records including birth, death, divorce and marriage are maintained and issued by the Colorado State Vital Records Department. From here individuals are free to obtain the aforementioned records provided they are willing to pay applicable fees and follow a set list of guidelines. However, while the Vital Records Department maintains such records from 1900 to the present day, there is a gap between 1939 and 1975. If an individual requires a marriage record that is dated during this gap, they are then asked to seek out the county clerk in the county that originally issued the marriage license.
Like many other states, there are two different methods of requesting Colorado Marriage Records. These methods include in-person and through the mail. Individuals requesting Colorado Marriage Records in person must visit the office of the Colorado State Vital Records Department Monday – Friday between 8:30AM and 4:30PM. If a request is made before 4:30PM the Vital Records Department will provide same-day service. Quite obviously, requests made through the mail can be submitted at any time of the day but are associated with wait times up to 3 weeks from the day the request is received.
Requests made through the mail and in-person require the same information and similar fees. The only difference here is the fact that individuals may not mail-in cash but instead must provide fees as check or money order. Such fees include $17 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy that is requested as the same time.
Information required when requested Colorado Marriage Records is very similar to that of other states. This includes the full names of both the husband and wife, the county in which the marriage license was issued, the date of the marriage, the date on which the marriage license was issued, the date the record is being requested, and the name, address, signature, email address and daytime phone number of the individual(s) making the request. Additionally, a photocopy of a valid form of identification must be provided which includes a driver’s license, state ID or passport.
