The government agency responsible for Guam Marriage Records is the Office of Vital Statistics at the Department of Public Health and Social Services of Guam. It also serves as Guam’s central repository for public documents, including those pertaining to marriages that took place in Guam. Marriage documents dated with effect from October 16, 1901 are maintained at this office. They include Marriage Certificate, Marriage License and Marriage Waiver.
It is mandated by law that Guam Marriage records are released to the public by the DPHSS upon request. Each certified copy of the Marriage Certificate and Marriage License costs $10.00 and $30.00 respectively. On-island requests must be paid by cash or credit/debit card while off-island requests are by money order or cashier’s check made out to Treasurer of Guam. Special handling charges may be applied to off-island requests. Information on the required processing time is not readily available from the DPHSS. Besides the Vital Statistics Office, the local courthouses are also a good place to search for marriage records and may even be a speedier option. The fee for each duplicate of a marriage document from them is $5 in money order payable to the Treasurer of Guam. Payments by personal checks or cash will not be accepted. Personal particulars of the groom and bride, date and place of marriage and the identities of the conducting official and witnesses are the standard information contained in Guam Marriage Records.
